October 27, 2000 The BITS (Biomedical Information Technology at Stanford) group is made up of faculty from the Schools of Medicine, Engineering and Humanities & Sciences that have met weekly for more than one year to organize activities that promote biomedical computation at Stanford http://bits.stanford.edu/ . The mission of this group is to provide (1) shared computational infrastructure for biomedical applications, (2) design joint student and post-doctoral training programs (at all levels), and (3) facilitate collaborative research involving biomedical computation. With the recent success of efforts in these areas, the Deans, Provost and President have authorized this group to plan for an organizational umbrella that would provide continuity in the management and oversight of these programs. Professors Russ Altman (Biomedical Informatics, altman@smi.stanford.edu) and Scott Delp (Biomechanical Engineering, delp@leland.Stanford.EDU) are leading this effort. - Russ Altman Associate Professor of Medicine and Computer Science Director, Biomedical Informatics Training Program Member of the BITS Faculty Group |
