About the Conference

The BCATS organizing committee is proud to announce the 17th year of the symposium: Biomedical Computation at Stanford (BCATS). This year BCATS will be held on Monday, April 10th 2017 at Stanford . BCATS is a one-day scientific conference organized entirely by students highlighting current research by students and post-docs in the San Francisco bay area including Stanford, UC Berkeley, UC San Francisco, UC Santa Cruz and UC Davis. Last year, BCATS presented work of over 60 different research projects to over 250 attendees from the scientific community.

Over the years, BCATS has consistently offered the biomedical computation community a place to connect and learn about state-of-the-art science. This open exchange is critical for the growth of biomedical computation research. Attendees of previous BCATS have gone on to become leading faculty in prestigious institutions and drivers of biotechnological innovation in the private sector.

BCATS 2017 Keynote Speakers

Michael Snyder, PhD - Stanford University

Professor and Chair, Department of Genetics

Dr. Mike Snyder is a leader in functional genomics and proteomics. His lab develops methods to analyze genomes and regulatory networks, such as proteome chips, high resolution tiling arrays for the entire human genome, and methods for global mapping of transcription factor binding sites (ChIP-chip now replaced by ChIP-seq) in organisms, such as yeast and human.

Olga Vitek, MS, PhD - Northeastern University

Sy and Laurie Sternberg Interdisciplinary Associate Professor, Science; Computer and Information Science

Dr. Olga Vitek's group works with high-throughput investigations in multi-omics to characterize the components of biological systems, functional interactions, and disease relevance with the goal of providing methods and software for experimental design and accuracy improvement.

Ron Dror, MPhil, PhD - Stanford University

Associate Professor of Computer Science, Molecular and Cellular Physiology

Dr. Ron Dror's lab is multidisciplinary and works with varying areas ranging from high-performance computing to drug discovery. Specifically, the group focuses on understanding the spatial organization and dynamics of biomolecules to answer questions about our living systems and improve precision medicine.

Nicholas Tatonetti, PhD - Columbia University

Assistant Professor, Department of Biomedical Informatics and Systems Biology

Dr. Nicholas Tatonetti's lab focuses on multi-omics data integration, such as transcriptome sequencing, metabolomics, proteomics, and electronic medical records. Some of his exciting translational projects include understanding how to use venom for drug development and finding deadly drug interactions using clinical informatics approach.
